Archaeological Museum

You have come to relax and you are bored walking around the corridors of the museums. We understand you. A good starting point is to go to Syntagma Square and just before picking a place to enjoy a nice coffee, to observe the Archaeological Museum from the outside; this amazing stone-built Venetian three-storey building.  It is one of the most beautiful and best preserved monuments from the time of the Venetian occupation of Greece. According to the marble inscription inlaid in its facade, the building was built in 1713, during the time of the second Venetian occupation, by the prefect of the fleet, Augustine Sagredo, to be used as a naval warehouse. It may intrigue you, and you might end up sacrificing your morning coffee for a useful glimpse on the history of the place. Here you will admire remarkable collections with historical exhibits from the Prehistoric and the Mycenaean Periods, coming from Mycenae, Ancient Tiryns, Ancient Assini and other areas.

Worth to see
The bronze armor of the 14th century BC found in a chambered tomb of "Dendra", the Mycenaean figurine of the 12th century BC "Archon (Lord) of Assini" and historical exhibits of Argolis on the second floor.
