"Karonis" Museum

The name Karonis is particularly well known in Nafplio, especially to those who appreciate the hard-to-find good ouzo and the pure tsipouro. The story of the homonymous distillery is lost decades ago. Fortunately the family took care to maintain all the machinery all these years and managed to set up a Distillery Museum. And here, the Karoni family put all their love and affection into creating a space comparable and worthy to host some important pieces of history. In the museum you can see documents from 1880 and later, machinery and tools of the distillery, as well as the first distillery of the Karoni family together with its purchase invoice from France.
And of course, here you will be able to taste the products of the famous distillery.
You should definitely try Mastiha Karoni, the only in the market that is made by distilling the mastic tree tears! Also the Marigo's Liqueur Vissino, made with vissino fruit from Arcadia.

A little history
I think I'm not the only one impressed by demonic, hard-working people who started from zero and grew up their business. Here's the story of Karoni Distillery:
It was in 1840, after the establishment of the official Greek nation, when Yannis Karonis opened his tailor shop in the city. With love and passion for ouzo production, the small business is growing by acquiring two distilleries. In 1869, John and Fotis Karoni's distillery was founded, with the two brothers evolving over time. At their modern factory, they set up production plants using distillers and machinery from France and Germany. Production then increases and out-of-town distribution begins. In 1889 the awards at the Zappeion Exhibition and later the Gold and Silver Medals at the Thessaloniki International Exhibitions also bring the official recognition of the Karoni distillery. The emphasis on quality has continued in all four generations of the family, with the precious recipe remaining a secret and always the same. Today, the fifth generation offers unique spirits.
