Mediterraneo - Papargyriou Estate wine tasting, March 22nd 2019

In the elegant and hospitable wine & delicatessen store called Mediterraneo Wine and Deli, at Sofroni Street in Nafplio, in an inspiring evening of wine tasting accompanied by tasteful delicatessen products, the Papargyriou Estate will present its unique wines. With the varieties Asyrtiko, Sauvignon Blanc, Athiri, Cabernet Sauvignon, Agiorgitiko in the Estate since the early 80's, and with the dry Moschoudi variety, which gave the popular Papargyriou Blanc (Moschoudi-Assyrtiko) and the sweet "Opsimos Trygos" (Late Harvest) we will participate at this unique journey of aromas and flavors.

The winery and vineyards lie near the village of Lalioti, Korinth, 120km to the west of Athens. Founded by Mr. Aristidis Papargyriou in 1978, when the first vineyards were planted. In the early ‘80s he tasted in Patras the local Muscat in a dry version and decided to cultivate it in Korinthia. This variety was going to be a major success, serving as the main grape for our most popular wine, the Papargyriou Blanc.
In 1993 the Estate gets a bottling license and begins to sell its first wines.
In the summer of 2000 many of the vines were destroyed by a big fire. A redesign period follows and search for new estates. During that period three wines were produced, with a total production of 12 to 15,000 bottles.
In 2002, the land damaged by the fire is planted, as well as 40 acres in Sofiana area. Thus, since 2005 the production increased to 35-40,000 bottles, about 60% white and 40% red and rosé wines.
Exports are now being made in most countries: Germany, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, from 2015 also to the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
The Estate participates for the first time in a wine contest in 2010, winning 2 gold medals at the "Concours Mondial de Bruxelles". In total, in its three appearances in this competition, the Estate was awarded 3 gold and 3 silver medals.
