Nafplio - Christmas celebrations 2018, "A city, a fairy tale ..."

This year's Christmas celebrations have typically begun in Nafplio, with the illumination of the Christmas tree in Syntagma Square on Sunday, December 9th 2018, with many musical events, surprises for the children and... a concert by Phoevos Delivorias!

Within the Events program, which the Municipality of Nafplio has designed for this year's Christmas Celebrations, "The Elves Shoemakers" will be starring in the Three Admirals' Square (City Hall) in Nafplio.
Inside the most distinctive workshop of the North Pole, "Kourabies", the scandalous Elf and Santa Claus's chief Assistant, will wait for the children, parents and visitors of the city to meet and guide them in the traditional way of the Christmas country and remind them of arts and professions that are lost over time.

From December 15th 2018, Santa Claus is Coming to our town, offers gifts and is photographed with children and adults, with the enormous elves' Shoe as a background.

Visitors walking around the old city of Nafplio, meet on Aristotle Onassis Street the Christmas Luna Park with the huge Wheel and everyone will be able to enjoy the ride for free 20 meters above the ground; to admire the city from above and touch the stars!

Within a festive and cheerful atmosphere, the ice rink at Filellinon Square is due to provide one of our favorite amusements of the winter. Skating for young and old, experienced and beginners in the Christmas Nafplio!

Christmas and New Year's Eve in... the Enchanted Railway Station!
Santa Claus awaits his friends, young and old, at OSE's "Enchanted Railway Station" in Nafplio... to host them in his impressive home. Our little friends will enjoy sweets, many delicacies and will travel to the world of fairy tales.
Toys, amusement park, lots of surprises, animateurs, stilt walkers and spectacular fireworks will fill the pedestrian road of the park!


Festivities Main Program

December 9th 2018
Our city, its local municipal departments and their every corner are being illuminated, spreading the spirit of Christmas everywhere. 19:00 - The Christmas tree lights up and along with it our hope for an even better future.
After the lighting of the Christmas tree, Phoevos Delivorias and his band will perform in Nafplio Syntagma Square.

From December 9th until December 30th 2018
In the Swimming Pool's Canteen, from 10:00-14:00 and from 16:00-20:00, the "Don Pinello" Nursery Station will guide us in the magic of the festivities through the Christmas Children's Library, that is hosted at the Canteen area.

From Friday 14/12/2018 to Sunday 23/12/2018, Railway Station's Opening Hours are 11:00-14:00 and 18:00-21:00.

17:30 - Trianon: the Parents Association of the 5th Primary School of Nafplio present a Christmas theatrical performance by the students of the School, entitled "Summer Night Dream", a romantic comedy by William Shakespeare.

11:00 - Syntagma Square: the children of the Greek Dancing Workshop sing, chant for Christmas and dance inspired by the tradition of the Twelve Days' festive period.
12.00 - Vouleftiko: "Christmas Musical Journeys" by students of the Municipal Conservatory of Nafplio "K. Nonis"
12:00 - "Fougaro" New Library. We read stories and myths: "Christmas Fairy Tale". Narrator is Mrs. Fouli Louka.
17:30 - Trianon: the Parents Association of the 5th Primary School of Nafplio present a Christmas theatrical performance by the students of the School, entitled "Summer Night Dream", a romantic comedy by William Shakespeare.
16:00 to 20:30 - Vouleftiko: the Nafplio Conservatory of Mrs. Angeliki Mavrouli presents a Christmas concert of the Conservatory's students, with Christmas melodies and songs from individual performances and ensembles, as well as chorus.

Monday, December 17th 2018
19:00 - Trianon: the first grade young students of the 1st Primary School of Nafplio organize a celebration entitled "A magical night". The magical Christmas night, 25 lead soldiers come alive and proclaim the message of love, while in the village, Santa Claus receives the children's letters, noticing with worry the change of nature.

10:00 - Trianon: The children of the 2nd Kindergarten School of Nafplion and their teacher present a Christmas event on "The Christmas Embrace". The surprises will be many and lovely!
12:30 - "KAPI" (Elders Open Care Day Station) of Nafplio Municipality: Speech from the writer Mr. Mary Panagiotou on "The life of Alexandros Papadiamantis".

10.00 - 12.00, "Where did Christmas go?": The pupils of the 2nd grade of the 4th Primary School of Nafplion will search for Christmas through a theatrical performance, while the pupils of 6th grade sing christmas songs in the streets of the old town.
19:00 - Trianon: The model Nursery & Preschool "Chloe" invite us to the Christmas show entitled "The Christmas Games". A call to all the beautiful memories and elements that surround our customs with the ultimate purpose of decorating and brightly illuminate the Christmas Tree.
19:30 - "Vouleftiko" (First Parliament Building): Celebration with Christmas Byzantine hymns, carols and songs from various regions of Hellenism with the musical group "Byzantine and Traditional Echoes" in teaching and direction of Constantine Routoulas.

10:30 - Swimming Pool's Canteen: The Association of Parents of Infants and Children of the Nafplion Preschool Stations has organized a Christmas party for the little ones with events, music and festive dishes.
11.00 - National Gallery - Alexandros Soutsos Museum, Nafplion Branch: Christmas handworks at the Children's Workshop of Art, with the artist Magda Mara.
19.00 - Vouleftiko: Christmas Gala. The maestro Theodosis Antoniadis presents a concert and celebration for young and old, with gifts and surprises. With love and a cheerful mood, the Children's Choir of Nafplio, the "Tamperamento", the Vocal group "Symfonia" of Nafplio and the Bandina of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Nafplio are accompanying.

19:00 - Trianon: "The Nutcracker". The Municipality of Nafplio, in collaboration with the ballet school "En choro" are presenting the play "The Nutcracker" with music by Pyotr Illich Tchaikovsky. The students of the school and the dancer Elias Maniatopoulos are presenting Ballet in Two Acts with eilogue, in adaptation - choreography by Mrs. Konstantina Themeli.

19.00 - Vouleftiko: Concert of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Nafplio, performing works by Greek and foreign composers, with reference to various types of music, naturally in a most festive mood. Teaching - Direction: Conductor Theodosis Antoniadis.

20.00 - "The Universe Celebrates ...": The Mixed Polyphonic Choir of Nafplion and the Youth Choir start from the Holy Trinity Church in "Pronia" neighborhood and chant the Birth of Christ in the streets and squares of Nafplio, under the direction of maestro Mr. Theodosis Antoniadis.

12:00 - Santa's House: Theatrical play with songs and paintings at Santa's House, by members of the Nafplio Cultural Portal.
18.00 - Trianon: Experimental Stage of D.O.P.P.A.T presents the fairy tale of Eugene Trivizas "The child and the tree."
20:00 - Vouleftiko: "We sing for our fellow man". The Children's Choir of D.O.P.P.A.T and the Choral Workshop of Nafplio, under the direction of Mr. Yannis Nikolopoulos, sing for the fellow man well-known and beloved melodies.
The concert is given for charity. Food will be gathered for the Social Grocery store of the Nafplio Cultural Portal.

Friday, December 28th 2018 
12:00 - "True Santa's gifts are for all the children". The Center for Speech Therapy and Creative Occupation "Dimiourgo" (I create) is waiting for us to get to know what are ultimately the real gifts? Children will create Christmas handworks.
12:00 - Santa's House: Fairy tales and songs at Santa's House, by members of the Nafplio Cultural Portal.
18.00 - Vouleftiko: "The magic of Christmas is the children themselves". The "Proskinio" Artistic Group presents dramatized Christmas stories for children, with the participation of the "Telesilla" Children's Choir and conducted by Mr. Nikos Capetanios.
19:00 - National Gallery - Alexandros Soutsos Museum, Nafplion Branch: A tour in Modern Art works, recounting the birth of Christ or depicting artistically the Christmas scenes, customs and traditions, by the art historian Mrs. Lamprini Karakourti - Orfanopoulos.

Festive tales will be narrated, since the time that the sea was sweet and the sky was very close...

16.00 to 20.00 - Trianon: the Municipality of Nafplio is hosting the Foundation for Children «To hamogelo tou pediou» (The smile of the child) with a bazaar that presents the handworks of its children.
The Smile of the Child Foundation is not addressed to some, it does not belong to the few. It is addressed to all children and belongs to all those who share the same Vision and Values: Care, Dignity and Equality for every child in our country.
We are waiting for you all!
