An open concert in memory of our beloved composer Manos Loizos, will be held on Sunday, October 6th 2024 in Nafplio, in the old town; a nostalgic musical journey to the old days, to everything we have sung and loved...
"Symphony", the female vocal ensemble of Nafplio, promises us a really beautiful evening, melodic and nostalgic, on Sunday, October 6th 2024 in the evening, at the square of Agios Georgios. Songs from the rich repertoire of Manos Loizos will be heard, which so directly evoke loves and reflections...
Manos Loizos (Alexandria, 22 October 1937 - Moscow, 17 September 1982) was a Greek composer of Cypriot origin, one of the most important composers of his time, with a great contribution to the art of folk singing. During his 20-year musical career, he wrote some of the best Greek songs, collaborating with the lyricists Yannis Negreponis, Fontas Ladis, Manolis Raoulis, Dimitris Christodoulou and Lefteris Papadopoulos, with whom he met in 1965 and became inseparable friends.
In 1962 he came into contact with the famous Greek composer Mimis Plessas, who mediated in "Phillips" for the recording of his first song. It is the "Tragoudi tou dromou", a Greek version by Nikos Gatsos of a poem by Lorca, sung by George Moutsios. In April 1962, he became a founding member and vice-president of the Association of Friends of Greek Music, with the aim of supporting the work of Mikis Theodorakis and promoting young artists.
During the dictatorship in Greece, he was targeted by the authorities several times for his left-wing political beliefs. After the revolt of the Polytechnic university in November 1973, he was arrested and spent 10 days in the detention center of the National Security Service.
His songs, full of lyricism and tenderness, were performed by great names of Greek singing, such as Yannis Kalatzis, Giorgos Dalaras, Vassilis Papakonstantinou, Haris Alexiou, Yannis Poulopoulos, Yannis Parios, Maria Farantouri, Stelios Kazantzidis and Dimitra Galani (Source: SanSimera.gr).
