On Saturday, May 27th, 2023, the theatrical masterpiece "All Generations... Nikitaras!" by George A. Christodoulou is coming to Nafplio for a unique performance at the Trianon Theater. For the first time, Greece's national hero Nikitaras is presented on stage alongside his sick daughter.
The hero Nikitaras engages in a conversation on stage with his mentally disturbed daughter... Another work by the renowned playwright George A. Christodoulou, where this time he delivers the life of Nikitas Stamatelopoulos in a revealing performance. A play that has been presented from 2021 until today in various cities and festivals in Greece, at the Theater Stage of the "Dimiourgon" (Creators') Gallery, at the Goulandris Museum, at the Alkmini Theater, at the War Museum, and more.
A hero of 1821, who fought so many battles, breaking three swords in Dervenakia and never stooping to take spoils. Nikitaras! Who witnessed his daughter going mad, when she saw him amidst the bloodshed, tormented by Greeks! Who saw his hut being auctioned off! Who was unjustly imprisoned for two years in a dark cell, enduring brutal beatings and humiliations... A hero who, after the revolution, became blind due to hardships and was forced to become a beggar to survive, along with his family. A hero, a Greek, who fought all his life for a free homeland, but until today, no one knows where his grave is!... A heart-rending, human performance...
The author George A. Christodoulou grew up in Volos, with roots from the mountainous Kaisari of Corinthia, and has worked for newspapers, magazines, and radio stations. He has written many books ("The Word of Peace," "History Speech," "Visible Circle," "The Tear of Joconda," and "The Sculptor and His Sleeping Beauty"), as well as numerous plays, including three with the theme of the 1821 revolution ("God Put His Signature... Theodoros Kolokotronis," "A Mockery Trial... Georgios Karaiskakis," and "All Generations... Nikitaras"). He is a member of the Union of Theatre Playwrights and has been giving lectures for years to students as a playwright and theatre critic, in Drama Schools and theatre departments of universities.
