Connection with nature, return to the basics of life, clearing of the mind and recharging memories: at Anthemion Suites & Villas holidays acquire their true essence.
This hospitable family boutique retreat -a haven of relaxation, rest, and enjoyment- stands in the middle of a lush olive grove, in the tranquility of Greek nature, with the picturesque city of Nafplio just 5 minutes away.
About 20 years ago, the Palioura family dreamed of building a house in the embrace of Argolic nature. And the dream came true. They created an elegant "home", harmoniously integrated into the natural environment, named it Anthemion, and since 2004 they opened their doors making anyone feel not as if they are simply staying in a hotel, but like being hosted in a house of good friends.
Your home away from home
I drive the March 25th street, the main road that leads to Karathona beach, and I follow the sign to Anthemion. As soon as I turn into the alley of Agios Eleftherios, I leave the roar of the city behind. Arriving at the entrance of the hotel, my mind is already empty of notions, ready to be filled with images and emotions.
As I walk on the big paved path, my heart is filled with joy. All around me nature overtakes the scenery. To my left, a lawn area surrounded by trees, flowers, and plants, hosts a summer lounge, which for a few minutes steals my attention from the two-storeyed main hotel building, painted in sweet beige, with the blue sky as background.
But something inside me tells me, that Anthemion's heart beats a few meters further and leads me to the pool area. While waiting for the owner, Mrs. Sofia Oikonomou, I enjoy my coffee at one of the tables, under the shade of a straw-made umbrella. I furtively cut off some rosemary and I examine the wooden deck chairs and the modern poufs around the pool, which, in a short time, will be filled with people, who will wake up with a morning swim and welcome their day with a special breakfast.
The buffet in the restaurant is full of homemade goodies and handmade delicacies made from local ingredients, the baskets are full of seasonal fruits, with a variety that satisfies even those who follow a balanced diet or vegan philosophy or they just want to return to the purity of taste, that the city’s ways made them neglect.
Dining at Anthemion is not just "one of the benefits", but an essential way of communicating, as the family's son, chef Dimitris Paliouras, has set up here the “Valaora”, an excellent restaurant for creative cuisine. Enjoy here your light, neat lunch, but also a romantic dinner.
True accommodation experience
As Sofia and her family serve the hotel guests with courtesy and smile, I find the opportunity to go a few steps down, where I find the Bbq area with the wood-oven, wander about the terrace with the bolsters and take the chance to photograph the earthen flower-pots with freshly planted cactuses.
And while the surrounding area is truly a balsam for the soul, the philosophy of relaxation and tranquility is diffused in the rooms themselves. The 9 rooms in the main building, the two deluxe apartments and the suite, with balconies, courtyards and large windows, do not let you forget -not even for a moment- the priceless value of the one and only work of art: nature.
Materials such as stone on the walls, wood on ceilings and floors, mat and rattan for baskets and decorations, come to ideally express the nature eco interior design, with the well noticed furniture and decoration, but also with the layout of the spaces, which provide all comforts and meet at the same time high criteria of elegance. Spacious beds with anatomical mattresses are dressed in elegant bedding, lamps of mat next to them, tree trunks in use of tables or bedside tables, wicker-worked baskets host the fluffy towels with the hotel logo embroidered on them, or decorate the walls.
If you ask me to single out one of the 12 rooms, I confess that the deluxe apartment of 80 sq.m. with the two bedrooms and the private back yard with the jacuzzi “spoke” inside me, while the premium attic of 35 sq.m. with emphasis on natural wood, with the open shower in the bathroom and the Zen terrace is definitely one of my top choices.
But to be completely honest, I dare say I would be happy even with a swing between two olive trees. To lie down, to be left in the caress of the breeze and to feel grateful for this piece of land, which started from a dream and became a dreamy reality!
Did you know that?
Whether you come with your other half, your family or group of friends, at Anthemion you will find the right room for you! Apart from the Deluxe Apartments and the Premium Suite I already mentioned, wonderful double rooms with king size beds and large balconies with lovely views await you, triple 25 sq.m. in modern style, quadruple 40 sq.m. with king size bed, twin beds and terrace, Family Loft with double bed and twin beds, with spacious terrace and Suite Room of 32 sq.m., with comfortable king size bed and sofa bed.
The rooms were completely renovated five years ago.
Huge plus to the hotel is the staff’s courtesy, the genuine smile and the excellent service, but also the cleanliness in all areas.
In the hospitable Anthemion Suites & Villas, in April 2020, 27-year-old chef Dimitris Paliouras opened an haute cuisine restaurant, which he named "Valaora", after his village in Evrytanian of Agrafa mountains.
Accumulating culinary studies, apprenticeship, and experience in top-rated Athenian restaurants, Dimitris and his mentor, the great executive chef Kostas Terzoudis, created a menu that, with tradition and creativity, also unites in the same marmite tastes from Evrytania and Argolis cooked on the same fire, making Valaora a synonym of creative Mediterranean cuisine. In Spring 2023, he inaugurated his new restaurant under the same name, in the location "Banières", on the beach of Nafplio. It's worth visiting!
The hotel can host a wedding or a christening or a small business event in the area of its pool Resto, but also in its olive grove.
