Kastello Hotel

During my walks in the old town of Nafplio, the renovated buildings that carry a valuable piece of history always catch my eye. The Kastello hotel, a renovated mansion in the heart of the city, which has been transformed into an exceptionally tasteful and particularly hospitable hotel, offers a feast for the eyes and is the ideal refuge for unforgettable stays and the creation of unique memories.

With respect for tradition and history
I arrive at Kapodistrias Square and from there, a few steps away from the statue of the first Governor of Greece, I admire the appearance of the Kastello hotel, as it embraces the corner of Syggrou and Vassileos Konstantinou streets, with its simple architecture. Its exterior, dressed in a warm ochre, generously allows the shade of petrol to stand out in doors and windows, with the characteristic terracotta of the tiles conversing with the clear blue of the sky. The small balconies of bygone times and the traditional wooden shutters effortlessly complement the impeccable aesthetic result, while the presence of the modern, minimalist logo depicting a castle harmoniously connects the past with the present.
Before I cross the door of Kastello's reception, I stand for a while in front of the large window, which reflects on its glass the Three Admirals' Square like a frame that frames a vivid painting. This is not the first time I visit this small hospitality gem, but as it recently came back with new ownership in March 2022, I am excited to reintroduce myself to it.
I pass through the always-open door of the reception with its glass vestibule and meet Eleni, the hotel manager, who welcomes me with kindness and a smile. As the phone rings constantly for reservations and information, I find the opportunity to sit in the familiar living room under the large wooden clock and admire the small dining room with its intense terracotta walls and couches in floral and crocus yellow.
I tell Eleni how much I love the rooms at Kastello, where I have personally stayed and recommended countless times to friends and acquaintances who visit Nafplio. Together we pass through the separate entrance leading to the rooms, a simple yet impressive wooden door, surrounded by stone and framed by olive trees in handmade pots; a door that leads to the paradise of Greek hospitality...

Accommodation with French finesse and impeccable aesthetics
Kastello has 5 rooms, each one unique with its own personality and name: Rosso, Azzuro, Verde, Porpora, and Loft Room. These spaces are wonderful and positively predispose you before you even see them, and pleasantly surprise you when you get to know them. In fact, everyone who discovers Kastello for the first time feels the same pleasant surprise, as -although a 3-star hotel- its rooms, amenities and service have nothing to envy from a 5-star hotel; on the contrary.
The rooms (ideal for families on the 1st floor, perfect for couples on the 2nd floor and the attic) showcase the classic aesthetic and French-inspired decoration in the best possible way, with wooden floors, well-chosen carpets, unique furniture, rich curtains and elegant chandeliers, that create an atmosphere of familiar luxury.
In Rosso, red is the protagonist on the wall behind the comfortable bed, in the oriental carpets and rich drapes, giving warmth to the space and at the same time indicating its connection to the revolution and history of Nafplio. Carefully selected pieces of furniture and decoration elements -such as the impressive headboard of the bed, the ornate chairs, the dresser with the mirror, and the wooden wardrobe- combine elegantly with each other in a harmonious result of refined taste, while the little balcony with a view of Palamidi and the incomparable picturesqueness of the old town steals your heart.
The Azzuro, with its almost transparent blue reminiscent of the sea embracing the beautiful Nafplio, takes you on a journey of peace and tranquility. In a simple yet elegant atmosphere, the Azzuro impresses with details such as the romantic canopy with its footstool, the simple wooden wardrobe, the preserved wooden beam of the old mansion, and the canvases with plants above its opening sofa.
The Verde celebrates the beauty of nature and symbolizes the upliftment of the soul, through the shades of green and the designs of leaves and flowers, which are reflected in its curtains and beautiful frames. The bed with its specially decorated headboard is framed by two large windows that illuminate the room, while the round table with two chairs creates a cozy relaxation corner. The characteristic palm trees of Nafplio and the quaintness of the old town stretch out generously in front of you, drawing the curtains or stepping out onto its beautiful balcony, to enjoy the unique view.
The duplex Porpora is characterized by the color purple, which symbolizes luxury and aristocracy, as well as idealism and self-sacrifice. The impressive purple wall behind the Chesterfield headboard of the bed, the purple velvet ceiling and the floral curtains on the large windows combine perfectly with the elegant furniture in dark wood. The living room is particularly noteworthy, with two comfortable, convertible sofas in shades of deep purple and canvases with plants and flowers.
While each of the four rooms is named after the color that characterizes it, one room stands out and rightfully so: the Loft Room, the wonderfully romantic attic of Kastello. The tones of beige and petrol, the characteristic striped wallpaper on the wall behind the comfortable bed, the elegant bedside tables and lamps, the welcoming sofa and the elegant sideboard /secretary create an environment of French finesse that encapsulates unique moments for two, under the sloping roof with wooden beams and the skylight that reveals the starry sky... And who hasn't fallen in love with this attic, reminiscing about wonderful moments inside it, as well as on the private furnished balcony with a view of Palamidi?
Sometimes words are not enough to describe the feeling, the experience, the embrace that a hotel offers you... But those who have stayed at Kastello know well that the memories you create here remain indelibly etched in your mind. And that is one reason that makes you come back again and again to this little "castle" of residence and hospitality, at Kastello hotel, where defenses fall and there are no winners or losers, only conquerors of unique moments of happiness.

You will enjoy your breakfast at Xenon Café, one of the best hangouts in Nafplio, on the historic and beautiful Syntagma Square, just a few minutes' walk from your hotel. Good coffee, excellent donuts, fluffy croissants, tasty omelets and toasts, delicious jams, energizing juices and much more await you, in an extended breakfast schedule, from 7:30 to 12:00 pm.!
