"A wonderful new hotel has opened in Nafplio, have you seen it?", "I will book at Capital for the weekend -second time this year- and I can't wait!", "I have never seen such a service, as in Capital!". The enthusiastic reviews from friends and its five-star reviews had piqued my curiosity, to check out Capital Luxury Suites in person. And so, just a few days before it won the Best Greek Design City Hotel award (Greek Hospitality Awards), it won my heart.

Love at first sight
Have you ever stood dazzled, but also a little skeptical, observing the exterior and the architectural view of a hotel, as if you had a priceless painting before you? This is exactly what happened to me with Capital that sweet morning, when I found myself in its quiet and with positive aura neighborhood, in the new city of Nafplio. The alternation of stone with glass - as if someone had put the past and future in conversation with the present - the cubist mood, the design-wise logo, the brightness of the ochre... everything in the view foreshadowed me positively, about what I would encounter.
I slowly pass the entrance, notice the rust-patterned railings, envy the tight embrace of the green plants on the fence, mentally dive into the small pool to my right, and with one step, I'm in the Zen little garden to my left… I have just entered a haven of accommodation that exudes elegance and lavishly offers everything I seek: balance and tranquility.

Your home away from home
The reception, the welcome, the genuine smile of Maria and Marianna at the front desk confirm in practice all the positive comments I have read and strengthen my belief, that beautiful places are primarily their people.
I discreetly leave them to serve the couple that just entered, and as I move forward I see a tree in front of me! All green, it stands in the center of the lounge area, so high, that it challenges me to look at its peaks, where the eye meets the opening glass ceiling, the clear blue sky. How wonderful, to feel the safety of a warm indoor space and at the same time to connect so directly with the elements of nature, I think, as I settle into the cushions of the comfortable gray sofa and enjoy the welcome treat, which arrives on one of the two marble tables…
With my drink in hand, I walk towards the bar area with its long, narrow wooden dining table and sit on one of the tall chairs. Two large lanterns fly above me, dancing lazily to the rhythm of the wind. In the middle of the table a tall vase of strelitzia flowers, and a little further a work of art in the form of a lion... Leo, the hotel's trademark, a symbol of glamour! Did I mention I'm sitting at the bar? Well, I'll tell you the truth: I feel like I'm sitting in the kitchen of my dreams! "Your home away from home", no other motto could better describe this unique feeling.

Aquatic oasis
With just a few steps, I get out to the swimming pool area - in the shape of a long narrow, surrounded by Mediterranean plants and exotic banana trees. A group of girlfriends enjoy the relaxing contact with the sea water, the beneficial effect of the sun, and the sweet laziness of chatting, while lying on luxurious sun beds. I dream of an escape here with my own girlfriends, when a sweet bark brings me back to (the admittedly dreamlike) reality. "It's our friend Lila, the dog from the house next door, whom we've all loved," says sweet Maria, and suggests that we see some of the luxurious suites.

Eight suites, of the dream and infinity
Eight in total are the Suites of “Capital” (equally split between ground and first floor) – how much I love that number, symbolizing the balance between the temporal and the eternal!
We ascend to the upper floor in the state-of-the-art elevator and exit to the perimeter balcony, which frames the rooms and leaves the view unobstructed wherever you look: below, at the tree of the lounge area, at the ceiling, with wood and glass alternating, outside at a stand of trees in perspective, opposite, at a suite’s balcony.
Entering the suites, a fragrance of freshness and cleanliness overwhelms me and I quickly realize that “your home away from home” phrase expresses to the absolute extent the rooms as well. Minimalism is so artfully combined with intimate luxury, that they complement each other effortlessly. Wood, linear marble and reinforced concrete details hold the reins of basic materials. The soft color tones and hidden lighting give the calm and relaxation of a happy home. The fresh seasonal fruit in the elegant bowl look like a work of art, while real works of art, carefully selected and discreetly placed, give a sophisticated touch to the space.
The sloping wooden beams on the ceiling give the feeling of being in a loft, whichever room you choose. A plunge into pure childhood, the unceasing joy of discovery, the incomparable feeling of being high up, as the heart soars... If I had to exalt a single architectural find in this wonderful hotel -and the excellent interior designer Angeliki Eleftheriadou will forgive me for this- it would be this incomparable feeling of the attic, which I appreciate higher, even than the most beautiful view -except maybe from the view of Palamidi, let's be fair.

The mornings of our lives
Now imagine yourself waking up here, after a deep, restful sleep, enjoying a refreshing shower in the minimal-style bathroom and wrapped in your fluffy bathrobe, savoring a delicious breakfast... You see, you can enjoy your breakfast wherever you like -in your room, at the pool area, at the bar table. You will have already ordered from the previous day what exactly you want it to contain and it will arrive fresh and hot from Kosmos bakery in a straw basket, at the time you wish. Whether you are a fan of salty flavors (such as omelets, scrambled eggs, savory pancakes, spinach pie, cheese pie) or sweet delights (such as pancakes in all flavors, croissants), here’s a friendly advice: remember to accompany your breakfast with a fresh juice from oranges of Argolis, to get energy for your walks in the city! After a tour in Nafplio's picturesque alleys and sights, it is certain that you will be eager to return to the intimate embrace of your hotel.
I don't know if the choice of the name Capital is connected to the literal translation of the word -makes sense, considering that Nafplio was the first capital of Greece. Moreover, In the lexicon of the mind and senses, Capital is synonymous with the excellent, the wonderful, the supreme. When you visit it and feel the unique experience of accommodation it offers, I would like to know how the Capital "translated" in you, what it revealed to you. Because, mind you, the quote at the entrance that says "Let the Capital reveal itself to you" didn't get there by chance...
