I opened my eyes in a very playful mood today. And a sense of nostalgia though. A smell from my childhood has flooded the room. I remember flipping through the storybook "The Little Ladies", gazing at the pictures. Beautiful dresses and beds and velvet couches. Mansions with wooden staircases inside, with golden banisters. Double doors, imposing, with skylights at the top and elaborate carvings below. Some had colorful stained glass instead of simple glass, lighting up the interior of the houses like a real rainbow. I was always touched by the sense of nobility, those that came from another era, those that had something to say. And today, everything speaks in this room.
In the heart of the old town of Nafplio, for a few months now, an old stone-built, mansion building has come to life. It has been renovated and transformed into a sophisticated guesthouse with eight rooms. Its name is "Residenza di Fedralia". In Greek it means the residence of Phaedra and the myth that established her as the representative of female passion comes to mind. In reality, the owners are certainly possessed of a passion for creativity, imagination, refined taste and respect for tradition. Every corner of this guesthouse has their signature. You'd think they've always lived here, you'd think they were born here.

Walking along Othonos Street, parallel to Akti Miaouli and the port of Nafplio, there, at number 5, you will find the stone mansion I was longing for earlier. You will know it by the impressive old double-leaf door - decorated with colourful hydrangeas on the top - that adorns the main entrance. There, waiting for you at the doorway, is Dimitris, the young man who manages the guesthouse. Warm smile, kindness and willingness to offer all the information he possesses and show the premises to help the visitor. When he talks about Residenza di Fedralia his face relaxes, brightens up. Everything you see in here comes from the personal work and taste of the owners, he tells me.
He opens the door and invites me inside. I'm confounded! One might say, that with a stretch of leg you enter another era. A wonderful floral smell and the white of nobility intertwined with gold. A restored wooden staircase, painted in gold, gold chandelier, paintings in the same pattern adorn the white walls. And flowers, beautiful flowers. You think they are alive and the wonderful fragrance comes from their stems. I hesitantly climbed the stairs, weighing every detail of the space. Romance, understated luxury and a sense of class. The owners' aim was to preserve the traditional element and highlight its grandeur, while adding modern and contemporary luxury details, Dimitris tells me. "When you see the rooms of the guesthouse, you will understand the extent to which this goal has been achieved," he adds.

The rooms are shared on two floors. Going up the stairs, on each floor you find a reception area and four doors, also painted in gold. Carpet in the same shade and a small living room. Beautiful classic armchairs and a discreet, elegant table with a gold frame. The same romantic, floral smell wafting from everywhere, increasing the sense of nostalgia and causing me to look forward to the next step, which will lead me inside the room.

Room... just classy
Modern decoration with vintage elements. Comfortable room, high ceiling, like those of all the old aristocratic mansions. Large windows, balcony overlooking the old town of Nafplio, its cobbled alleys and the sea in the background. Large bed with velvet details. Floor in the shade of wood, white walls with special paintings, beautiful carpet in a light shade, imposing and stately curtains, a sense of warmth and relaxation. Vintage furniture with golden frames and also velvet armchairs, waiting to rest and relax you while sipping your coffee and looking at the view from the large windows.
The bathroom in my room, simply a work of art! Black marble, gold sink. Something retro and classy at the same time.

Xenius Zeus
In the room there is a welcome corner. While the guesthouse offers breakfast in the opposite corner, in a very beautiful place, the owners have chosen a more special and personal way of welcoming you. An espresso machine, vintage dinnerware, gold cutlery, carved glasses and a beautiful velvet box with flowers and jams from local producers make up this beautiful and intimate corner.

From the moment I crossed the threshold of the Residenza di Fedralia, I was thinking about how many of us are addressed by its rooms. I thought about how many people I love, to how many people I could offer as a gift a stay in such a special, refined, stately and classy guesthouse. How many people I would like to transport to a beautiful and romantic time in the past. To a dream city, with history and tradition -a center of political developments and the heart of Greece once. It retains the architecture of that era, classic tiled roofs and neoclassical stone buildings. And Residenza di Fedralia in the heart of this city, offers the "journey" we all need, respecting tradition and aiming to meet the current demands of every visitor.
