I spent the last few days with my friends in Nafplio, a favorite destination since I can remember. We arrived early in the morning because we wanted to take the boat trip to Bourtzi -a must these days- now that it's open to visitors, and we wanted to avoid the rush hour. An excellent experience to visit a place that "smells" of history, but a little bit of the "boat trip", a little bit of the clean air of Nafplio, a little bit of the castle tour, you need a break for coffee and breakfast afterwards.
Expectations were high, because it is common in special cities to want to taste special flavors, and the truth is that we wanted to get away from the usual options in the port of Nafplio.
Walking through the alleys of the old town and crossing the center, we reached Kolokotronis Park, and a Suricata loomed in the distance!  A beautiful shop, with a modern design that was also a sign of youth. A well-kept courtyard, in a pedestrian area that is already "controlled" and offers the security that people with children need.
Along the walkway, there is a cluster of trees, while special plants are everywhere and embellish the surrounding area. Perhaps this is why Suricata flourished in this very spot! What a peculiar name for a dining place, and how fitting, given that suricates are social mammals! Come with me and let me show you this very original - for the city of Nafplio - station and fill your day with flavors and rhythms!

The four seasons...
Remember that old Greek TV series? That's what I thought of, when I met the four owners of Suricata. Four young guys, raised in the city of Nafplio, friends since high school, with studies and characters that distinguish one from the other, like the four seasons of the year. One season succeeds the other, leaving a useful legacy -for the existence of the next-  without which the cycle of nature is disturbed. The individual talents and loves of each one are captured in the catalogue of this beautiful space, and with our needs in mind, as well as their own inexhaustible ideas, all four together make sure to offer the client a unique experience of challenges! Two of them come from the world of gastronomy and their "kingdom" is the restaurant's kitchen, while the other two are experts in cocktails and beer. They have been working together for several years. The four of them had also "built" the unforgettable Calma Beach Bar, which they first started in Condyli Beach and then moved to Candia. The experience of the previous years was gathered, shared in the "four seasons", added the "taste" of each of them individually and a few months ago they created an All Day hangout that has all the specifications to engage the social life of the city!

Brunch from the two seasons...
Brunch in Suricata is a must! Choose between rich omelets, special bruschetta, baguettes able to satisfy the most hungry and demanding guest. Don't miss tasting the special and delicious Bao Buns and, above all, don't miss ordering them in all their versions! The two "seasons" of cuisine will make sure you will taste them warm and delicious! Each table has a QR code for the menu, which is an important guide as new quality dishes are added all the time.  Ask for a drink to go with them -even the chocolate drink is handmade- or trust the other two "seasons" to guide you through the world of drinks, especially beer.

There is an inexhaustible list of beer labels (more than 70!) and if you are not an expert, ask Alexandros to guide you. He is one of the owners or -as I call him- one of the "four seasons"! He is personally involved in finding small Greek breweries, but also special beers from all over the world. Suricata could easily be considered a brewery, as there is no place in the region that offers beer lovers a similar variety. Another "passion" of Alexandros is production. He is self-taught and this is one of the reasons why, as a "restless spirit" and a "researcher", he is constantly renewing the list of the shop, looking for special flavors, that can offer an extra experience to the "connoisseurs" of beer.
You will get similar satisfaction if you prefer wine, cocktails or drinks, which is the fourth member of this beautiful group. Special attention is paid to the special cocktails and the extensive whisky list. You will get maximum satisfaction if you enjoy them mainly in the evening hours, combined with a snack and the alternative music that can be heard in the room. The place is always on the move and attracts young and old people who want to enjoy quality street food, combined with a drink or a beer, in a particularly atmospheric place, in a very nice pedestrian street, in one of the most beautiful cities in Greece...

Events and happenings
If you live in the city or are a visitor and prefer Suricata for all the reasons mentioned above - and for the ones you'll discover there - you're likely to stumble across one of the events organized by the four of them. The venue is well suited to this type of event, and the location helps too. The convivial and cosy atmosphere will make for an unforgettable time. Even if you don't have company, you'll enjoy your drink in a place where positive energy is everywhere.

Suricata's philosophy is respect!
By getting to know the owners and analyzing the talents of each of them (the things that make one stand out from the other, but only all together can create this effect - like the example I used of the "four seasons" of the year, each with its own characteristics, but all necessary to maintain balance), I also identified their common ground. They all have a sense of respect for the customer. Their desire is to achieve maximum satisfaction by offering quality food and drink and alternatives not found in the city. It's a very promising philosophy, especially when you find it in one of the country's most historic - and perhaps for that reason, most commercial -cities, and when it's expressed by young people, locals with years of experience in the restaurant business.
